Catalyst Campus To Launch A National, Residential Technology Accelerator

Aerospace and Defense incubator, accelerator, and research and development center, Catalyst Campus for Technology and Innovation announced it would launch the Catalyst Accelerator in January 2018. The Catalyst Accelerator will be based at the Catalyst Campus for Technology and Innovation in Colorado Springs. The Catalyst Accelerator is partnering with the Air Force Research Lab Space Vehicles Directorate (AFRL/RV) to launch the inaugural accelerator cohort.

Catalyst Accelerator is seeking teams across the United States of entrepreneurs, startups, and technologists from established companies with commercial solutions to address the ability to monitor earth’s terrestrial environment. The end objective of the cohort is to provide improved global weather data and products to support the warfighter.

Solutions may include anything from a full commercial operations floor providing services and data to the U.S. Government, to a set of niche ground- and space-based sensors, data, data processing, improved algorithms, and services provided directly to an Air Force operations floor or operators on the ground. Solutions are desired across a broad range of relevant technologies that demonstrate a commercial viability.

Accelerator areas of interest are: capabilities to address global weather electro optical (EO) and infrared (IR) imaging of weather features, especially dealing with the challenges of an early morning orbit and lowlight regions; methods to retrieve sea surface wind direction and vertical wind motions; techniques/algorithms for retrieving surface parameters, to include soil moisture, identifying bioluminescence, contrail forecasting, absolute calibration techniques for non-traditional IR data sources, oversampling techniques to improve resolution of on orbit sensors, and data fusion techniques that integrate multiple data sources into usable weather products.

“The Catalyst Accelerator program takes advantage of our physical proximity to the military space community to ensure our teams meet the warfighter’s requirements,” said Kevin O’Neil, founder of the Catalyst Campus for Technology and Innovation. “By cultivating disruptive technologies – created by small and commercial innovators – the Catalyst Accelerator will support the emerging needs of the military space community and increase the pace of innovation to meet General Hyten’s Space Enterprise Vision.”

The Catalyst Accelerator is accepting applications now through Oct. 15, 2017. The inaugural cohort will kick off in January 2018 with a three-month, on campus, residential curriculum and concludes with a final demonstration day in April.
